How we started

It all began with the loss of our beloved George Patrick Newton, in September of 2024. George was a kind spirited, enthusiastic, passionate, dedicated, generous, and loving young man.  George lost his life to suicide at 21 years old after a difficult battle with his mental health. He was a avid gardener with a love of all things outdoors, setting up his own business named 'Gracious Gardens', and often going on hikes and adventures. George lived to love and support others, and so in his name we carry on doing so, the way that he would have wanted.

Meet the team

Olivia, Founder

I founded The Grief Trail after the sudden and unexpected loss of my brother-in-law, George Newton. Grief is difficult to put into words, and I know that no amount of time will ever fully heal the pain of losing George. Through this experience, I have come to understand grief in many of its forms. It changed the way I viewed grief. I began to see that there had been other moments in my life when I was grieving, though at the time I didn’t have the language to recognise it. That is why I created The Grief Trail, to make a space where grief in all its forms can be named, understood, and supported. A community that can come together to carry each other.
